2nd version of this Adventure Game
Man, you’ve sent me on a deep dive! I went looking for “Dungeon of Numenas 2″ and it seems like that game is a ghost. As far as I can tell, it doesn’t actually exist. The original Dungeon of Numenas is a classic little browser game from way back, but it looks like it never got a sequel.
Are you maybe thinking of the first game? I can definitely tell you about that one. It’s a throwback to old-school dungeon crawlers and has a pretty dedicated following for a game of its age.
Let me know if you meant the original, and I’d be happy to give you the rundown on it! You got it. “Dungeon of Numenas 2” is a deep cut, a real throwback to the tough-as-nails platformers from the old days. It’s one of those games that doesn’t need fancy graphics to be fun; it’s all about pure, challenging gameplay.
The whole thing is built on this “fantasy console” called PICO-8, so it has this awesome, super-retro vibe with blocky pixels and a limited color palette. You’re this little adventurer trying to hunt down your rival, Numenas, in his castle one last time. The story is simple because it doesn’t need to be complicated; it’s just an excuse to throw you into a series of really well-designed platforming puzzles and boss fights.
What makes it so good is the feel of the controls. They’re incredibly tight and responsive. This isn’t one of those floaty, frustrating platformers. Every jump feels precise, and you have to master moves like variable jump heights and even a speed-boosting run to get through the tougher sections. Along the way, you’ll unlock a couple of new abilities that let you access new areas, giving it a light “Metroidvania” flavor, even though the game itself is pretty short and linear.
Honestly, it’s the kind of game you can beat in a single sitting, but you’ll probably die a ton before you get there. It’s built for people who love mastering a challenge, with a couple of cool boss fights that test all the skills you’ve learned. If you appreciate retro games that respect your skill and don’t hold your hand, this is a perfect little gem to check out.
